Sweetness! 16 At Last!

By: Lisa; Creative Nectar Studio was the site for the Sweet 16 Paint Splatter Party - December 21, 2011.

To most people, the 21st of December marks the Winter Solstice.  But not to Amelia Jones who turned 16 this year.  Tonight she celebrated with a few of her close friends with a paint splatter party at the site of Creative Nectar Studio;  www.creativenectarstudio.com.
The nine girls sang happy birthday while the birthday girl made her wish blowing out the candles over her Mini Cooper Cake, made especially by Mike Elder/Black Sheep Custom Cakes; www.mikeelderonline.com.

Now it was time for the paint splatter to begin!  The girls each put on a white t-shirt and entered the black draped studio.  As they entered the studio was lit with a strobe light and black lights that would accent the fluorescent paint.  For the next hour the girls enjoyed creating their own Jackson Pollack masterpieces on each other as well as on canvases provided.  With each splat of paint, the laughter was contagious.  A favorite song list played to complete a party atmosphere.

According to Amelia, her friends thought it was the best Sweet 16 party they had been to this season.  Amelia raved that it was her best party EVER!

Where has the time gone?  It seemed just like yesterday I brought this beautiful baby girl, Amelia Elizabeth home just in time for her first Christmas.  Today, I handed her keys to drive herself home on this Winter Solstice night!

Planning and executing Amelia's party with vendors like Creative Nectar Studios and Black Sheep Custom  Cakes is just a small example of what prompted me to start Millie's Event Designs.  Contact us today and let us help you plan your big event, coordinate with your vendors and execute your plans in grand style!

Kansas City Welcomes Martha Stewart

By: Lisa, Kansas City's Unity Temple on The Plaza Sanctuary hosted an evening with Martha Stewart.

On this rather warm November evening, there I sat among others star gazing and listening to Vivien Jennings, (owner of Rainy Day Books) in conversation with entertaining and style icon Martha Stewart.  Martha was in Kansas City promoting her new and updated edition of Martha's Entertaining: A Year of Celebrations. As I listened I kept thinking about the first time I had seen her on TV and when I had driving past her home in Bedford, NY while on business.  Tonight here I was sitting in the same room as Martha Stewart, what a moment.  Martha talked about her chickens and bringing the eggs to distribute to her staff.  She loves lemon and makes a very tasty Black Cherry Mojito.  For someone who has achieved so much, she is very much down to earth.

All in all, the event seemed to go very well.  As I always say (and I'm sure Martha would agree) No event can go well unless well planned and executed.  So next time you are planning an event, think of Millie's Event Designs and let us plan and execute for you!

The Wedding of Crystal Robertson & Greg Lewis

By: Lisa, On Saturday, September 24, 2011, the Oread Hotel hosted the wedding of Crystal Robertson & Greg Lewis, and Millie's Event Designs was the official wedding planner...

When it comes to weddings you just can't help but get sentimental.  On this Saturday in September Miss Crystal Robertson and Greg Lewis said their vows on the terrace of the Oread Hotel located on the campus of Kansas University. As the guest were being seated, a lovely quartet was playing in the background. The wedding began when the Clock Tower chimed at exactly 5:00 PM. After the ceremony the guest were treated to a cocktail party where the bride & groom had their first toast.  Then it was off to The Hancock Ballroom for the wedding reception.  The ballroom was dimly lit with voided candles providing a romantic setting.  Upon entering the ballroom the guest were treated to a sit down full coarse meal.  The couple had the traditional cake cutting ceremony that then proceeded to speeches from the father of the bride, the best man and the maid of honor.  All of whom toasted the bride and groom.  What wedding wouldn't be complete without  the traditional father/daughter dance.  The guest along with the bride and groom danced until dawn.

Millie's Event Designs would like to especially thank both Crystal and Greg for the opportunity to be a part of their beautiful day!

Getting Down to Business!

By: Lisa, The time is now to start planning those Holiday Parties...

Yes, it is that time of the year when the kids go back to school.  Fall is just around the corner and so are the Holidays.  It was just three years ago when I was planning my daughter's 13th birthday "surprise" party.  She is a December baby and for eight years she performed in the Kansas City Ballet's The Nutcracker...This particular year my daughter was cast as Clara and what a dream come true for my soon to be teenager.  During this time I was planning the Kansas City Ballet School's Annual Sugar Plum Fairy Luncheon; the event that historically opens the Nutcracker season in Kansas City.  I worked with some of the most amazing vendors who never said no when it came to the arts for children. The Marriott Downtown KC was where the party was hosted and 13 girls hid until the guest of honor would appear.  The cake was designed by Natasha's Mulberry and Mott especially for the "Birthday Girl".  Still more surprises for not only the birthday girl, but for the guests as well.  There was a limo waiting outside the Marriott to escort the guests to their homes while taking the scenic route through the Plaza Lights.  Yes, I did indeed pull off the surprise and a birthday that she will remember for a life time.

I love making memories for my family and for others.  To make this season one to remember contact Millie's Event Designs and let's make a Holiday memory together!

Meaningful Events Need a Guiding Touch!

By: Lisa, in The Beginning

Every successful event that I’ve ever attended, whether it was a wedding, a fundraiser or a charity ball, had someone purposefully guiding it from inception to execution.  Being in sales and marketing my entire adult career, I understand how much a good presentation can mean.  I got my first real taste of planning events when I was asked to coordinate the grand opening of a new manufacturing facility in Reynosa, Mexico for Seagate Technology.  After that, I began to volunteer to chair various fundraising events for my college sorority and other groups.  I reached the pinnacle of being a volunteer event coordinator when I chaired Kansas City’s annual Sugar Plum Fairy Luncheon in 2005, 2007 and 2008.  After these events, many of my friends and even some of the vendors I worked with suggested that I should get into the event planning business as a career.  After much thoughtful reflection, I’ve decided that life is too short to not pursue it passionately by doing something you love.  With that in mind, I’ve created Millie’s Event Designs so I can bring together people, vendors and events from inception to execution.  Because every meaningful event, needs a guiding touch!
