Forty, Fabulous and Looking Fantastic……

By Lisa: It was a lucky Friday the 13th for Jeana Charles who celebrated her 40th birthday with a party graciously hosted by Matt Charles in her honor at the newly opened Hotel Sorella, Kansas City, Mo; http://www.hotelsorella-countryclubplaza.com

Millie's Event Designs worked along side husband Matt to create an intimate setting where friends and family gathered to celebrate this memorable occasion.

Each guest was treated to tapas of chilled crab & cucumber pillows, a plate of salmon, an assortment of sushi and sashimi baby tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella and basil stuffed vine leaves, spicy tomato and sally shooters, lobster salad stuffed rolls and assorted bruschetta.  The menu also included warmed tempura prawns, smoked salmon & leeks quiche, assorted seafood, chicken, beef and vegetable dim sum, mini mixed grill kebabs of marinated steak, lamb, and chicken, fried vegetable spring rolls, truffled forest mushroom tartlets, and spicy sausage/peppers tortilla pizzas.

The tables in the Francesca room were complemented with eight inch clear glass square vases  filled with nosegay red carnations and white roses accenting the uniquely designed centerpiece by Randy Neal Floral Design

And what would a Fabulous 40th Birthday Party be without cake?  This one was a truly edible masterpiece from Mike Elder, world class cake designer custom cake; http://blacksheepcustomcakes.com.  The cake was a simple but elegant turquoise and white three tier design.

The evening was capped off with acoustic guitar player, Bryce Meehan https://www.facebook.com/BryceMeehanMusic playing and singing a list of Jeana's favorites from todays top hits to yesterdays classics.

Fry Family Host PathMaker Scholars Night-Out

By Lisa:  The Olathe School District Board of Education was the site for a gathering of the Fry PathMaker Scholars.

This past Thursday night, the ten Fry PathMaker Scholars met for a night out with their AVID Counselors and parents.  These Olathe students were selected through an application process administered by the Fry PathMaker Board.
Scholar Parents and Cindy VonFeldt,Olathe Public Schools
The evening was kicked off with a welcome speech by co-founder Dr. Bob Fry.  He went on to introduce Dr. Gretchen Sherk, Executive Director of General Administration and High School Programs along with Cindy VanFeldt, Executive Director of Olathe Public Schools Foundation.

Dr. Fry then proceeded to ask the scholars to work as a team, and arrange the buffet of pizza, salad, breadsticks and dessert for their guests.  While everyone was enjoying the meal Dr. Fry introduced his family; his wife Dr. Mary Fry, their son Dr. Jeremy Fry and his wife Nicki along with their three children Caroline, Lilly and William.  The microphone was then passed to the scholars who gave a brief bio and introduced their guests.

Once the introductions were complete, there was a drawing where each of our ten scholars was eligible to win three AMC Movie passes for two.  The winners were Ian Njoroge, Anna Perez and Heather Booth.  Congratulations!

It was a fun filled evening for the scholars and their guests.  The Fry Family looks forward to the continued growth of the PathMaker Scholarship Foundation in the years to come.

Congregation Beth Torah and Kauffman Stadium host Cole Bar Mitzvah

By Lisa:  On Saturday, January 5, 2013 Zachary Cole and his family celebrated their son being called to the Torah as a Bar Mitzvah.  Millie’s Event Designs worked with proud mom Michelle Cole to plan and coordinate this Jewish rite of passage.

In the Jewish tradition, the age of thirteen marks the passage into adulthood.  The term “Bar Mitzvah” means “one who is obligated to the commandments.” This ceremony symbolizes Zachary’s acceptance of the spiritual, ethical and religious responsibilities of an adult member of the Jewish community.

The décor of the Temple was set to a baseball theme.  Each table was draped with a white linen cloth coupled with artificial turf table runners and accented with memorable baseball cards.  The centerpiece was designed by Velvet Crème to replicate a bucket of popcorn served at baseball stadiums.

A ceremonial prayer was said with family and guests over the Hallah, (each single loaf is woven with six strands.  Together, both loaves have twelve, which represent each tribe of Israel).  After kiddush over a cup of wine, the head of the household recites the blessing over the bread: ("Blessed are you, LORD, King of the Universe, who brings forth bread from the earth").  Each guest was then treated to a buffet style lunch catered by Panera Bread that included their signature style salads and delectable pastries.

Continuing with the baseball theme, the celebration then moved out to Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium.  Here young Zachary and his friends enjoyed cake and stadium fare including pizza, nachos and popcorn.   Activities included photo booth memories and dancing to the music of a live DJ.  It also included Zachary’s Mitzvah project which was collecting donations from each guest suitable for use at Wayside Waifs.  These items were collected in a pet crate provided by the charity and will be used to care for abandoned animals at the shelter.

At the end of the celebration, each guest received a gift bag that included bubble gum and baseball cards featuring young Zachary.
